I’d like to get a quote for a mural, what info do you need?
We are so excited that you’re interested in a mural! For the most accurate quote, we will need dimensions of your space, detailed photos (entire wall/space and close-up of surface) and a description of the type of mural design you are envisioning.
Here are three mural examples showing three different levels of complexity - please refer to these when describing the type of mural you're envisioning. Use the Contact form to submit your request or email us directly at brightwallcollective@gmail.com.
Level 1 - simple graphic shapes
Level 2 - more painterly or detailed painting, text
Level 3 - highly detailed or realistic painting with blending, portraiture
How does your design process work?
We’ll start by meeting to discuss the details about your mural vision - we can meet in person, via Zoom, have a phone call or chat over email, just let us know what works best for you! If you have specific examples of artwork you like, colors or elements you want included in the design, or even murals or artwork you don’t like, please let us know - the more specific information we have, the better!
Don’t know where to start looking for inspiration? Our website is a great place to look for examples - are there any mural designs that feel similar to what you're envisioning, or have a color palette that fits your needs?
Once we’ve discussed your mural needs in detail, BWC will create a mood board explaining our design vision - this mood board will help you visualize the completed mural and will include color and style options to help you finalize your design choice.
Once we finalize the design concept with you and a design fee is received, we will create the final digital artwork for your approval. Upon design approval, we will schedule a time to install your new artwork, and the paint magic can happen!
How do you price your murals?
We typically price murals by the complexity of the design multiplied by the total square footage, plus costs of supplies and any additional services required for installation (ex. scaffolding rental if required).
How should I pay for my mural?
We accept cash, checks, or payments via Venmo. Once you approve a design, we require a 50% deposit to begin the mural installation. The remaining 50% of the cost is due at mural completion.
What type of paint do you use?
We paint most of our murals with water-based, artist-grade acrylic (Novacolor) and seal with a UV protectant for outdoor murals (Aquathane). If the substrate calls for a specialty paint, we will discuss options prior to installation.
How long does a mural last?
Murals can last up to ten years before showing significant fading or damage, with many lasting much longer. This is only an estimate though, and does not account for extreme weather conditions or direct water damage that will impact the longevity of some murals.
How should the wall be prepared?
Walls should be free from damage. If the wall is in poor condition, arrangements should be made prior to painting to repair the damage. Filling cracks and sealing any holes that trap or catch water is very important - if water can get underneath the paint, it will destroy the longevity of your mural. Please consult with us if you have wall-condition concerns or questions.
For new construction, a smooth finish is ideal. A primer or base coat (water-based) should be painted on the wall before the mural work begins.
If it is an existing wall and the wall is in good condition, no special preparation is required, but cleaning prior to painting (powerwashing if extremely dirty) is greatly appreciated.
How long does it take to complete a mural?
This depends on the size of the wall, the complexity of the design, and weather conditions if painted outdoors. Your schedule is important to us, and we will provide a time estimate before we begin painting. For reference, a 9’x20’ mural can take from 2-4 weeks to complete depending on design complexity.
My wall is rough and bumpy brick or stucco, can you still paint a mural on it?
We can paint on highly-textured surfaces, but it does affect our ability to paint detailed artwork. We don’t recommend highly-detailed or text-based designs on this type of surface.
What happens if my mural gets damaged?
If your mural is damaged (graffiti, paint chipping due to weather damage, etc.) please reach out to us and we can discuss repair options! This is not common, but does happen occasionally and we would love to make it right. We charge an hourly rate of $50 to complete small repairs or touch-ups, but may also require a supply fee if the repair is extensive.
* Repair requests will be completed at the discretion of the artist.
When should I reach out?
We occasionally can accommodate requests on a shorter notice, but typically need 3-4 months lead time to accommodate larger mural projects. Outdoor murals can only be completed when temps are above 50°F.
Do you paint signage?
We don’t typically paint signage (excluding text included within a mural design), but there are many local painters specializing in signage who can do a stellar job. Let us know and we are happy to provide recommendations.
Are you insured?
Yes! BWC is fully insured with General Liability Insurance.
